Uprooted/RE-rooted, 2017-2019

Uprooted/re-Rooted includes a 7500 building size painted mural and a restored concrete courtyard of William Cramp elementary school.

A female leadership team of mothers, grandmothers, teachers, re-consider the underused outdoor space into a metaphorical community garden and teaching space. The mural is a collage of drawings generated by a third grade class and from Wilson’s own archive of plant drawings and paintings depicting the life cycle of a plant.

The design of the courtyard is inspired by contemporary art and ecology lessons, taught by Wilson and are empathy, strife and culture kitchen—themes derived by the community design team.
